Johnson sacked as Waterhouse coach

WATERHOUSE FC have relieved head coach Boris Johnson of his position following their 0-1 lost to Digicel Premier League (DPL) strugglers St Georges SC last Sunday.

It was the fourth consecutive loss suffered by the Drewsland outfit who have won only twice in their last 14 games.

Johnson, has been replaced by a panel of coaches, including Marcel Gayle and Xavier Gilbert, until the end of the season.

Efforts to contact club president Ricky Chin or club chairman Bruce Bicknell proved futile at press time last night.

Meanwhile, the Observer has learnt that promising coach Paul Young has been earmarked to replaced Johnson for the start of next season.

Johnson was promoted to head coach after the club fired former coach Jeffrey Maxwell, who led them to a third-place finish in the DPL last season.

Maxwell was fired on June 10 with immediate effect. He was reportedly at philosophical odds with club president Ricky Chin over the direction of the club.

Johnson then led the club to the first End-of-Round final in November 2010, against Tivoli Gardens, having won eight times, drawn once and lost twice in 11 games back then.

But he went missing after an internal squabble with club officials just before the final, which they lost 0-5.

He returned, but the club never recovered their early-season form and are currently fifth on 44 points -- 16 adrift of the leaders and out of the title race with six matches remaining. Waterhouse have garnered just eight points from a possible 30 in their last 10 games. Since rattling up eight wins from their first 11 games, they have won just four more from a further 21 matches.
