Waterhouse leapfrog Portmore

April 21, 2011 HOWARD WALKER

Waterhouse registered a rare victory with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Portmore United in their Digicel Premier League (DPL) game at Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.

Substitute Peter Keyes tapped home the winner in the 54th minute after Andre Clennon's shot picked him out at the far post.

Waterhouse, who fired head coach Boris Johnson after a series of poor results, won for the first time since January 30 and their fist in their last seven games.

The Drewsland outfit, with their 13th win from 33 matches, moved to 47 points and leapfrogged Portmore United into fourth spot. They remained unbeaten against Portmore in three games, winning twice.

Portmore, who were losing their third consecutive game and who have not won in their last eight outings, slipped a spot to fifth on 47 points, following yesterday's completion of the third round.

In front of a small gathering at the Ferdie Neita Park, the game failed to spark, but Waterhouse and were the hungrier and duly obliged.

Coach Anthony Patrick of Bridgeport High School fame, was on the bench along with Marcel Gayle, the assistant coach to Neville Bell at St George's College, while Xavier Gilbert was giving invaluable advise from the stands.

In a tactical move, Waterhouse brought on hitman Keyes for playmaker Kenardo Forbes at the start of the second half, and eight minutes later he was on target.
